An introduction to a few aspects of mindfulness as a tool for personal development and healthy relationships
Introduction and practice of a few basic mindfulness practices for:
calming your mind
connecting to your body
connecting to your environment
“The body whispers. The body speaks. The body shouts.” Most folks miss everything in front of the shout
This workshop offers a more focused, more active, look at some of the body-focused mindfulness practices from my “Awakening” workshop, so that communicating with your body is less cluttered, less confusing over time
The focus will be on: actively calming the mind to check the story we tell ourselves; and connecting to the body, to check what is really happening in the moment
With practice, these skills create a deeper body connection that supports self exploration and motivates change
Pain takes many forms and it shows up in many places in our lives. Many folks do not have the skills needed to manage the chronic aspects of physical, mental and emotional pain effectively. Thus, they suffer
How folks feel about what they are experiencing, physically, mentally and emotionally has an impact on how well our physical, mental and emotional systems can respond to the pain
This workshop will introduce a new set of body and thinking skills for mindfully shifting your relationship with your pain in a new, hopefully more positive direction
This workshop moves more deeply into the story part of Story Coaching. While it is less physically active, this workshop can be emotionally challenging
The only relationship in your life that you can’t walk away from is the relationship you build with your self. This makes it the relationship that needs the most work. Always
The root of all positive and negative self esteem stories is what we feel and believe the stories say about us. How many of your stories are positive? How many are not?
Using mindful practices for self reflection, this workshop is meant to offer a different frame of self awareness that makes it less challenging to own mistakes and successes
This workshop opens the door to a more mindful, intentional communication process that supports greater personal and relational harmony, strengthens and builds lasting relationships, and offers more effective outcomes
This workshop weaves information from the Self Esteem workshop into how, what and why we communicate in the ways we do (or don’t) with the people we communicate with, our self included
Looks at communication patterns in specific relationships in order to identify and shift self stories in a “more accurate to fact” direction in conjunction with hard communication skills to support the development of positive internal and external boundaries
This workshop builds on some of the hard skills and information from the communication workshop to discover, or rediscover your edges, more readily notice other folks' edges and find and use the space we share in a good way
Boundaries, visible or not, are about safety. Using mindful practices this workshop tunes into a more sensitive body framework for discovering what feels safe and what doesn’t for you, separate from the story
Using physical awareness skills from theatre and martial arts, participants will learn to notice the body information more easily and become more able to use the information well
Conflict is an unavoidable aspect of life in the human experience. It has an evolutionary purpose and a developmental function for all of us. Conflict Resolution is a skillset we are not born with
How we view conflict is a major factor in how we do conflict. This workshop will offer some skill-based, non-competitive, “Win-Win” approaches to conflict resolution that might change the view
Building on skills and information from “Feeling Good About Your Self”, “Saying What We Really Mean”, and “My Space. Your Space. Our Space?”, folks will encounter and practice a different set of conflict skills focused on reframing the conflict
Like conflict, change is unavoidable. Everything changes. Me, you, other folks, economics, relationships, ideas, opinions, politics, (did I mention relationships?!?), climate, emotions, values, beliefs, etc… is in an ongoing process of CHANGE, all the time
The story that we tell ourselves often leads folks to fear or resist change in a way that jams their ability to adapt and change in the moment and over time
Using skills from the “Mindfulness” and “Feeling Good” workshops, this workshop is meant to offer some alternative perspectives about change and how we can step into change in a different way
This workshop offers current information about stress: what it is, how it works, what impacts it can have on folks; and offers a new, more effective set of ideas and skills
This workshop will strongly emphasize mindfulness practices that are focused on physical, mental and emotional self-regulation as a 1st response to stress. “The body whispers. The body speaks. The body shouts!”
It will also do a deeper dive into the story folks are telling themselves about their stress. Using ideas from the “Feeling Good” workshop, folks learn to refine their ability to notice and reality check in the moment to reduce stress, and to strengthen and maintain the new awareness over time
This workshop is meant for folks who struggle with their own or other folks' anger and want to learn more.
This session will offer some alternative ideas about what anger really is, what it does, and how much choice we ACTUALLY have in the relationship we create with our anger
Anger is not what we think it is. Anger is far more complex, powerful and valuable than humans have ever imagined. And, we can learn new skills to build a different relationship with anger, and thus, a different future with and for the folks we love
Anger is not simple. It has no gender. It has no faith. It lives in EVERYONE. AND it is neutral, just like any other emotion; until we point it and "let" it slip the leash. Or not.
It's what we do with our anger that makes all the difference.
This session will offer some new perspectives on the loss/grief dynamic in conjunction with mindfulness practices for accessing and using built-in emotional and physical release processes in order to move forward
Have you ever been hit by a major loss in your life and had everyone, even nice folks, be no help at all? Have you ever found yourself being the “nice folks” and not knowing how to help or what to offer?
Welcome to the club. Many of us simply do not know what to do, say or feel in the face of loss, regardless of whose it is.
Like all human experiences, the event of loss and the grieving that goes along with it, are uniquely different for all of us. Owning that is where we start to heal
This session will introduce current ideas and information regarding: how our memory works, what might be happening when it doesn’t, and some simple skills and practices to strengthen the "muscle" that is our brain
Time catches up to all of us and with time our mental process can slow down or even fail. That is not an inevitable end, it is a belief, based in old science, that current science and new technology are proving wrong
Using mindfulness practices and brain exercises, this session will offer some practical skills and habits to make our brains stronger and more resilient to the wear and tear of time
We all age. We all move into the past. We all become history. Despite the fact that we all end up at the same destination, our society actively, aggressively resists, denies, avoids and evades the facts
Like everything else, how you view it, influences how you do it. This session looks at aging in a different way. Self-esteem, communication, healthy boundaries, and our ability to adapt and adjust to change, all play a vital role in how we respond to age and aging
This session will confront current attitudes and beliefs about aging and offer other, more valuable and empowered frames of reference that have nothing to do with how wealthy you are or how young you look
It is a proven fact that having a purpose, a mission, “a reason to get out of bed in the morning” can make a profound difference in the direction and altitude of peoples’ lives
This session brings it all together. Taking information and skills from the previous sessions, folks will enter into the process of finding their purpose by identifying significant interests, values, and meaning in order to reconnect to their passion
Folks will come away with a clearer sense of what is important to them and how they want to develop and grow the really important stuff
